- Emergency repairs to the structure over the Río Seco, located on the N-230 highway at kilometer marker 72+100 in the municipality of Tolva, Huesca province, are progressing well. The work is expected to be completed in December of this year.
The structure to be repaired is a statically determinate viaduct consisting of three 20-meter spans, for a total length of 60 meters including the deck, four reinforced concrete piers, 24 supports, and joints on each pier. These piers exhibit cracks in the lower flange of several beams and damage to the supports, as well as damage to the lintels and abutments.
The repairs consist of chipping and cleaning all the deteriorated concrete, as well as cleaning and brushing the reinforcement bars and applying a protective treatment. A geometric reconstruction will then be carried out using a thixotropic repair mortar. A corrosion inhibitor will be applied to the repaired areas, followed by the application of an anti-carbonation protective treatment. All existing supports will also be replaced.
This required lifting the structure approximately 16 millimeters using 100-ton hydraulic jacks with displacement and pressure control. The work was carried out by Grupo MLN, a company with prior experience in other emergency response efforts, which successfully and quickly completed the necessary tasks.
