During the 2017–2018 academic year, the Mariano López Navarro Chair awarded the prize for the best doctoral thesis to Manuel Bailera Martín, for his thesis: “Renewable methane. Integrated configurations of power-to-gas and carbon capture using surplus renewable energy”. Bailera has also been awarded a Marie Curie fellowship to enable him to continue his research in this field.
The Mariano López Navarro Chair in Civil Engineering and Building was one of the first industry-sponsored chairs at the University of Zaragoza. In 2005, the MLN Group and the University of Zaragoza signed a collaboration agreement.
One of the Chair’s objectives is a commitment to teaching excellence and applied research. To this end, various activities such as seminars, courses and talks were organised. In addition, each academic year, two prizes are awarded for the best final-year projects in the fields of the environment and civil engineering, as well as an award for the best academic record among students on the Industrial Engineering and Chemical Engineering degree programmes at the University of Zaragoza. Furthermore, the MLN Group Laboratory actively collaborates on projects carried out within the MLN Chair, hosting university students who undertake their final-year projects there. The students’ visits to both MLN Group construction sites and the Bárboles facilities round off the Chair’s activities.
