The Sástago Bridge (Zaragoza) reopened this morning. COPHA, a company belonging to the MLN Group, has been carrying out repairs since the bridge was closed to traffic last March. It was closed on 4 March after a drop of around 25 centimetres was detected at one end of the central span. This led to the closure of the bridge. Following several studies, it was concluded that one of the abutments had failed, causing a crack in the deck. Consequently, repair work was carried out on all the abutments, with two tie rods added to each one. The affected deck section of the bridge has been demolished and a new one constructed; finally, the deck has been raised.
Taking advantage of the works, a pedestrian crossing has been installed to improve mobility in the region, and all the cantilevers have been inspected and reinforced with two tie rods per cantilever. The affected deck of the bridge was also demolished and a new one constructed, and the deck was lowered. Health restrictions hampered the works, but the set deadlines were ultimately met.
