The MLN Group has completed the works on the connection between the Doctor Zubía Roundabout and Portales Street, as well as the Cien Tiendas (One Hundred Shops) area. This project transforms these spaces into pedestrian-priority zones and improves accessibility in the center of Logroño.
The project covers approximately 2,500 square meters, creating unified platforms in both sections that allow for safer and more accessible pedestrian traffic. The connection to Portales Street has been resolved with a radial fan-shaped design and traffic light system, improving both functionality and aesthetics.
The routes between the roundabout and the city center’s landmarks now offer greater integration and continuity, with a more pedestrian-friendly urban design that prioritizes pedestrians.
The connection to Portales Street encompasses the intersection with Rodríguez Paterna Street, Amos Salvador Square, and the Carmen and Cervantes Walls, uniting these areas with the northwest corner of the roundabout on a single platform. The connection to the Paseo de las Cien Tiendas (Walk of a Hundred Shops) has been achieved with a single-level platform covering the section of Duquesa de la Victoria Street between Juan XXIII and Beti Jai Streets, also transforming this street into a pedestrian priority zone of approximately 70 meters.
The space chosen for the project, located between the headquarters of the Institute of Riojan Studies and the Riojan Athenaeum, was once the Puerta Nueva (New Gate), which separated the city walls from the Convent of Carmen, now the Práxedes Mateo Sagasta Secondary School. Throughout history, it has served as a crossroads connecting the old town with the new and the commercial area with the expansion zone.
