High-performance concretes are one of the recent developments in concrete technology. They are characterized by offering structural behavior more similar to that of steel than to conventional concrete. They allow for the construction of much thinner and lighter sections compared to conventional concrete, consuming fewer natural resources and enabling greater spans with very slender sections. They also allow for reduced construction times while guaranteeing the quality of the structure. Their durability is superior to that of conventional concrete due to the virtually non-porous nature of this material.
The Mariano López Navarro Chair of Civil Engineering and Construction (MLN Chair) has organized a seminar on advances in concrete design and technology, entitled “High-Performance Concretes,” to be held next Wednesday, March 4th, in the Aula Magna of the Paraninfo building at the University of Zaragoza. Through four presentations, we will explore everything from the behavior and technology of concrete to its appropriate applications.
